The Dry Places
by Pastor KC Cook
The Word:
So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten… - Joel 2:25 (NKJ)
The Story:
Texas is known for its dry summers. As a result of the dry heat the grass will often catch on fire. I remember driving down the highway one day seeing burned dry patch after burned dry patch. There was green grass between the patches but the dry burned patches stood out. The earth was black and scorched and looked like it would never grow back. In the Old Testament the Southern Kingdom of Israel experienced disaster as swarms of locust attacked and stripped every green living thing bare.
The Reflection:
In some ways our lives are like a long road. We are on a spiritual journey on the highway of life. When we spend time with God our lives will be spiritually nourished (green). But when we neglect the spiritual nourishment in our lives it will cause dry patches. It is in these dry patches that “sin-fires” can occur and burn our spiritual grass.
Application:
Although it looks bad and stands out, these scorched patches can be restored. Just as the grass by the highway can be nurtured back to producing life, God too can restore those burned areas in our life. He promised the children of Israel that He would make their land better than before and He can do the same in our lives. The truth is in these dry scorched time in our lives we need Him most.
Prayer:
List 3 areas in your life that need spiritual restoration and pray to the God who can make that area of your life better than before.
