The Word: Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect results, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4 (NASB)
The Story: One of my favorite songs is titled “Resurrection” by Nicol Sponberg. “Resurrection” has very powerful lyrics that touch the heart and soul.
The lyrics are:
When all my efforts seem like chasing wind
I've used up all my strength and there's nothing left to give
I've lost the feeling and I'm down to the core
I can't fake it anymore.
Here I am at the end I'm in need of resurrection
Only You can take this empty shell and raise it from the dead
What I've lost to the world what seems far beyond redemption
You can take the pieces in Your hand and make me whole again
Hearing this song makes me thankful for what God has done for the world. He gave His Son so that we may have eternal life. This sacrifice is amazing.
The Reflection: There will be times when we feel incredible weakness and everything we do seems to go wrong. Those times may make us feel like we cannot handle life’s pressures or challenges. As you read the lyrics above, remember that God is the only one that can make us whole again. He is our source of hope and strength. Regardless of the situation, do not dismay. Our God can take the sufferings of our lives and turn them into something He can use for good.
The Application: As you walk in your daily life, remember what Jesus did on the cross. Meditate on what His sacrifice means to you. For me, it means peace during times of trouble, joy in times when I feel defeated and security, knowing that God is walking with me.
Write down at least three things God’s sacrifice means to you.
The Prayer: God, restore a joyful spirit when challenges overwhelm me. Help me to focus on You and Your sacrifice when I feel there is nothing else I can do. Amen.
