Undercover Husbands: Becoming Men Who LAUGH

by adminguy    |   Monday, November 17, 2008 at 8:58:00 AM

During Sunday's message, Pastor Conway encouraged men under cover to become men who LAUGH. But what does that mean? According to I Peter 3:7 and Ephesians 5:25-33, a man who LAUGHs:

L = Leads with love (Eph. 5:25)
A = Provides affection (Eph. 5:28-9)
U = Leads with understanding (I Peter 3:7a)
G = Pursues godliness (Eph. 5:26-7)
H = Shows honor (I Peter 3:7b)

We received several questions during service about how to become a man who LAUGHs and how to identify a man who LAUGHs. Here are a few tips:

1. He surrounds himself with other other men who LAUGH.
2. He practices each letter of the acronym.
3. He reads books on what it means to be a godly man, that often challenge his thinking.
4. He identifies areas where he is weak and seeks out guidance to grow and develop in those areas.
5. He prays and asks God to conform him to His image.

Your Questions: Three Signs of the Undercover Christian

by adminguy    |   Sunday, October 26, 2008 at 8:15:00 PM

Thank you for texting us your questions during the Sunday Worship Service. Unfortunately, we were unable to answer all the questions after the message, so we have responsed below.

Question 1: Am I really submitting when I am obedient to what my authority/covering asks me to do, but I disagree with their decision and in my mind I grumble and complain about what they have asked me to do?

I don't think there is anything wrong with disagreeing with your authority. I commend you for recognizing that you disagree with your authority and not letting your thoughts control your actions. We certainly are not going to agree with everything we are being told or asked to do.

However, if in your mind you are complaining about it and thinking bad thoughts about them, then you are not really submitting. According to Philippians 4:8, "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things." To everyone else you may look as though you are submitting, but to God, you aren't.

Question 2: How do I protect my authority/covering in dealing with their weaknesses?

If you have boss or leader who is really weak at something you should do whatever you can to make life easier for them and offer to help them in any way possible. For instance, if your boss is not good a time management and usually ends up with too much on their plate, then offer to help take some of it off their plate. When we submit to our authority, we have to also realize that we are serving them as well. An attitude of submission is exhibited by servitude.

If you have other questions about how you should respond to your authority/covering, we want to hear from you. Take some time to post your "What do I do when my authority..." questions on the blog!

Note: Our web manager will review all submitted comments/questions. As a result, there will be a brief delay between the time you send us your comments/questions and it appearing on the blog. Thanks for your patience.
